The first thing we did was actually quite unexpected. We had brought a present for Melissa's grandparents to Utah from Washington, and we were planning on giving it to Melissa's cousin Josh who would get it to them by Christmas. They're up in Salt Lake City, and we weren't going to go there the whole vacation. However, Tom's mom asked us if there was anything we needed to do up in Salt Lake on the way home from the airport, so we decided that we might as well just go over and visit Melissa's grandparents! It was great. We spent probably about 45 minutes with them, and we gave them their present, (although since it was from all of their children they couldn't open it until Christmas when some of their children would be there).
A couple of days later was our day with Christina and Nate. That was a lot of fun too. It started with going over to their apartment and making Chicken-Broccoli Casserole. Nate didn't show up for a long time, and Melissa and Christina went to the store to get the last couple of ingredients, so Tom was in the apartment by himself for a while, but he was busy enough with the dishes and keeping watch over the chicken and broccoli. After a while Nate did show up, and his brother Tyler came too. Dinner was really good. After that, we went to downtown Provo to see the candy windows. There were only 6 this year instead of 10 like last year, and they weren't as good as last year's windows either, but it was still a lot of fun. Yay for candy windows!
We had lunch with Melissa's brother Spencer one day. It was fun. We were planning on going to Jason's Deli, but it was too far away, and Spencer didn't have enough time. So we went to the Italian Place instead. Though we didn't get to spend too much time with him, it was still good that we were able to see him and talk a little bit. Fun times!
One evening we hung out with Tom's Mom's family at her brother Jeff's house in Saratoga Springs, which is pretty far away for being in the same valley. Everyone on that side of Tom's family was there except for two. Not bad at all since a lot of them live in California. Anyways, we had a huge Christmas dinner, and a great evening. The BYU bowl game was on TV that evening, and we won, so that was good. Nathan took some family pictures, and that also seemed to go pretty well. Fun times. All in all, it was a great evening!
Christmas Eve, the Bell side of the family was over at Thomas's parents' house, so we didn't have to go very far at all. It was the grandparents, Karen and her kids, Joe and his kids and us. We had another nice dinner. We also had a sort of program where we sung and Tom's dad read some scriptures. It was nice. Over all, it was pretty fun too.
The next morning was Christmas. We exchanged presents. Melissa got a beautiful nativity set and some nice storage things for her scrapbooking. Thomas got some fun Rubik's Cube things. The Bell family then came over and we exchanged some more presents. Joe got Tom's parents a fun Fondu set and a George Forman grill. Fun, fun fun!
Later we spent an evening with the old Malt Shoppe/Rocky Mountain Drive Inn group. It was us, Vickie and Ryan, Tausha and Cameron, Jenn, Ji Hye, Chuddy and Alice and Brent. We went to Los Hermanos. Melissa and I both ordered the stuffed Burrito, but Melissa ordered it not spicy. Well, we didn't realize it until later, (I don't know why not), but they actually messed up and gave Tom the one that wasn't spicy and Melissa the one that was. Oh, well. After we ate, we and Jenn, Vickie and Ryan, Ji Hye and Chuddy went to Ji Hye's house to play games. We played a really fun one called Boxers or Briefs. We also exchanged presents, and Melissa was finally able to present the engagement scrapbook she made for Vickie. It was great.
The next night we had a mini snack night at Tom's grandparents' house since Joe wanted snack night but was leaving before New Year's Eve. Basically, we just pigged out on chips and crackers and other snacks. There were a few healthier foods there like stuff for sandwiches and vegetables, but mostly unhealthy snacks. Good thing this isn't every dinner in the Bell family or else they'd all be dead by now.
There was a lot of college football going on during the time between Christmas and New Years. Tom watched a lot, and one day he and Jacob started trying to build the New York skyline out of lego's. They couldn't make it as big as they originally planned, because they didn't have enough legos of the same color to make the World Trade Center as big as they wanted. Still, they made it about 18 inches high. Not bad! They had a lot of fun with that. It was good for Tom too, since he hadn't been able to spend much time with Jacob over the break.
New Year's Eve we had the real snack night. It was basically the same except we stayed up later to watch a movie and play games. Also, there was a slightly larger variety in the snacks even though there were fewer of us to eat them. We watched Ratatouille for the first time that night. That movie is very fun and cute. Loved it.
The next day we hung out with Melissa's most recent roommates, Rachel, Krystle and Alesha. It was a lot of fun. First we went to Brick Oven. Alisha was late because she had to work, but she still showed up there and just didn't eat anything. They are all still roommates, and so we then went to their place and played some singing into a microphone game and then some game where you try to guess which of two things, (usually disgusting things) the other people in the game would rather do. Altogether, we had a lot of fun!
Then we had to pack up an leave. So sad. Still, we had a great time in Provo. Well, wishing all of you a Happy New Year!
